S J Watson latest Amazon Rising Star 05.07.11 | Lisa Campbell
Doubleday author S J Watson has been announced as an Amazon.co.uk "Rising Star" for the second quarter of 2011.
The author's Before I Go To Sleep came top in a consumer poll asking readers which one of four Amazon-selected novelists deserved the title of "rising star" for best debut.
He was up against Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford (Allison & Busby), The Godless Boys by Naomi Wood (Picador) and The Trouble With Alice by Olivia Glazebrook (Short Books).
Darren Hardy, books manager at Amazon.co.uk, said: "S J Watson's debut novel has already been hailed as an accomplished literary thriller by critics. Telling the story of Christine, who loses her memory each night when she goes to sleep, the story quickly unfolds into a compelling psychological thriller which, judging by the customer reviews that the book has received, has been keeping readers enthralled from first page to last."
Myriad Editions author Elizabeth Haynes won the Amazon Rising Stars award for the first quarter of 2011 with her novel Into The Darkest Corner.
The shortlist for the next, and final, round of Amazon Rising Stars 2011 includes The Homecoming of Samuel Lake by Jenny Wingfield (HarperPress), The Family Fang by Kevin Wilson (Picador), Wall of Days by Alastair Bruce (Clerkenwell Press) and The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern (Harvill Secker).
Readers will vote for the overall Amazon Rising Star of the Year from the three winners.
